Primary Designs was established by Managing Director, Pat Barrett in 1998 and has earned its prestigious reputation by designing and manufacturing quality exhaust systems for the motorsport industry including Formula 1 teams.
Pat who is passionate about his company and the products they produce,was first trained in motorsport exhaust fabrication by Williams Grand Prix Engineering in 1981 and his first experience of working in motorsport was for Racing car constructors March Engineering, with his duties including building aluminium monocoques for Formula 2 and Formula 3.
He later became a Director of Parallel Motion which was one of only two exhaust companies in the UK at that time manufacturing exhausts for the whole of the motorsport industry,where he worked from 1987 until forming his own specialist exhaust company,
Pat is hands-on in the day to day running of Primary Designs and he employs the most experienced and highly skilled engineers to design and fabricate the exhaust systems that he sells to the industry. The products are created using the very latest in technology and innovation, most of which is not used by other exhaust manufacturers.
The company which is very much a family run business,now employs 14 staff who share a combined experience of over 70 years of working in the motorsport industry.
Primary Designs regularly take on new apprentices as their preferred way of maintaining a high skill level and as a testimony to their business and specialist training, their previous apprentices have left to work for top motorsport organisations, including the Prodrive World Rally Team and Force India F1 team.
Since its inception in July 1998, Primary Designs have designed and fabricated exhaust systems for clients including Formula 1 teams,Supercar manufacturers,Le Mans,F3, FIA GT, Historic F1 (Thoroughbred Grand Prix)
Moto GP, World Superbikes, World Rally (WRC), British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), World Touring Car Championship, Rallycross and off-shore powerboats.
In 2010, Primary Designs expanded their product range by supplying the Supercar Exhaust package to the motorsport industry and Supercar owners.
The typical Supercar Exhaust package incorporates the exhaust manifold, sport silencers, turbo (where applicable) and high-flow HJS sports catalysts which are Euro 5, TUV and VOSA approved. We also manufacture track day silencers for Lamborghini and Ferrari. Primary Designs were appointed in 2010 as an official agent for Turbo Dynamics, a leading supplier and manufacturer of turbochargers and tuning parts.
The Supercar Exhaust system is currently available for Porsche, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Ferrari and BMW M Series and will increase power by varying degrees depending on the full vehicle specification.
